Caroline County celebrates on a small-town scale. Eden Town Brewing in Denton rents its taproom, meeting room and patio for small weddings, showers and private parties. The Wharves of Choptank Visitor & Heritage Center hosts meetings and events on the river in Crouse Park, and Martinak and Tuckahoe state parks have reservable shelters for picnics and family reunions.
The county was created in 1773 and named for Lady Caroline Eden, wife of Maryland's last colonial governor, and Denton itself was first called Eden Town. From the 1840s to the 1920s, steamships carried passengers between Denton, Cambridge and other Chesapeake towns, and a historic steamboat pier is preserved in town.

When Caroline County celebrates
Caroline Summerfest marks the end of summer in downtown Denton in late August, with a car show, the Rivah Run boat event at Martinak State Park and fireworks. Fall brings Adkins Arboretum's Fairyfest and Plein Air Adkins.
